The Importance of Nutrition in Musculoskeletal Health

Just as a healthy diet is essential to support good health and prevent disease, good nutrition is also essential for the prevention and management of musculoskeletal conditions;  ranging from short-lived, (acute), conditions such as fractures, sprains and strains through to ongoing (chronic) conditions including fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. 

Injured muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones, joints and connective tissue require specific nutrients for tissue growth and repair as well as other nutrients to reduce the inflammation that causes pain and slows recovery.

Your body needs fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates and good quality proteins, to provide essential nutrients including minerals (potassium, iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium), collagen, omega-3 fats and vitamins (A,C, D, E and K), for musculoskeletal repair.
